History
|
1835
A cement and lime operation is established in Weizen, Germany.
1936
Wilhelm Stotmeister, owner of a lime plant in Klergen, expands by acquiring the Weizen plant. From this humble beginning, Sto grows to global proportions, with plants and offices eventually spanning the globe.
1949
Invention: An absent- minded German chemist leaves something in the dryer and accidentally creates a light-weight, highly insulating rigid plastic foam board, later named "polystyrene."
1955
Stotmeister was the first company to pioneer and introduce the revolutionary high quality synthetic resin wall coatings to the European market. This marks the beginning of a long legacy of Sto innovation.
1963
Sto introduces a new and innovative wall system to the German market... a cladding that creates an unbroken layer of insulation on the exterior of the building and integrates an arcrylic-based resin coating that is extremely durable and long lasting... the first exterior insulation and finish system. 1979
Sto expands across "the great pond" to market its high quality, energy efficient Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems. Sto Energy Conservation, the first U.S. Sto company, is founded in Vermont.
1981
To help establish industy-wide standards, Sto is instrumental in working with other manufacturers to form EIMA, the StoTherm EIFS™ Industry Members Association. | | 1986
North American expansion continues as the demand for Sto products increases. Branch offices open in California and Sto Industries Canada Inc. is established.
Powerwall Corp., a Texas company (later renamed Sto Concrete Restoration Division), is acquired in order to manufacture a complete line of repair and protective products for concrete and stucco restoration.
1989
Sto moves it's headquarters and builds a major manufacturing facility in Atlanta to efficiently handle it's ever-increasing volume and to centralize operations.
1991
The Sto plant in Phoenix, Arizona complete, providing efficient services to the western U.S. Countless warehouse facilities-over 50 in North America-are utilized for rapid local product distribution.
1997
In addition to Vermont and Arizona, full wet production is on-line in Atlanta. This ensures greater speed and efficiency in pail product distribution.
A result of nearly 20 years of continual growth and anticipation of the future, Sto plans for completion of corporate headquarter in Atlanta.
1999
Sto Corp. celebrates its 20th Anniversary of operations in the United States. Sto launches the newly reformulated Sto Flexfinishes & StoSilco Flexfinishes. Sto introduces the new & improved Sto Maxicryl and StoSilco Shield. Sto introduces a new standard mesh.
2000
Sto Corp. launches StoGuard - 2 new moisture protection products - Sto Gold Coat & Sto Gold Fill. Sto introduces a new web site that is informative and user-friendly.
StoMachine Technology, featuring the StoSilo, is introduced in the U.S.
Sto Corp. obtains ISO 9001 certification.

StoMachine Technology introduces 2 new machines - Sto M-8 Spray Pump & Sto s-20 Continuous Mixer. All machines are being demonstrated on the Sto Innovation Tour.
2002
Sto Corp. launches Sto DecorTex an acrylic coating system with the ability to finish properly taped and bedded wallboard surface in less than 1/2 the time of traditional finishing.
2003
Sto introduces several new products in the repair line including Sto Trowel Grade Repair Mortar with CI. Sto Powerwall Stucco systems and Sto Limestone finish are launched. The corporate web site was redesigned.
2004
Sto Corp. celebrates its 25th anniversary of operations in the US. Several new products were launched including: StoPatch Repair Mortar, Sto Concrete Coating Sand and Sto Primer/Sealer. Sto Corp. launched a new Insulated Concrete Forms program which included specification and detail drawings.
2005
Sto launches StoCoat™ Lotusan®, a revolutionary new coating with the patented self-cleaning properties of the Lotus-Effect®. Sto introduces Sto EmeraldCoat, a spray-on Waterproofing / Air Barrier designed for use under stucco and other non-adhesive claddings.
2006
StoMachine Technology introduces the Sto All Purpose Pump, changing the way stucco is applied to buildings.
2007
Sto renames its EIFS product line - StoTherm EIFS, signifying the thermal and energy efficient properties of EIFS cladding systems.
2008
Sto Corp. continues to expand its manufacturing capacity with the opening of a dry production facility in Albuquerque, NM
2009
Sto Corp. acheives ISO14001:2004 certification of its Environmental Management System, for all North American facilities, reinforcing Sto Corp.'s ongoing commitment to our motto "Building with conscience." |
